Plans to provide support for adults with mental health needs to be unveiled across Lancashire.

This “bold” plan is set to give older people and adults with mental health needs a system in order to remain independent in their own homes whilst receiving safe support from a carer.

The new vision ‘Care, Support and Wellbeing of Adults in Lancashire’ is to give freedom and independence to people suffering with mental health and to provide a community of people who are safe and secure in their own homes.

Micky receives support from the adult care service and he said: “the support workers have helped me to develop a clear plan with how I can move my life forward positively.” The service also aims to work with the elderly to identify what is important to them and reorientate their lives.

He also said: “I was in a dark place, and now I have a structure. They have given me a fresh start.” This shows the impact this service is having on people and the difference this support can have for communities.

County Councillor Graham Gooch, cabinet member for adult social care, said: “At the heart of our vision is a desire to see everyone in Lancashire reach their full potential.” The service aims to retain or regain as much independence for both elderly and people with mental health issues as possible.

He also said: “We're passionate, ambitious and determined to make a difference to the lives of the adults in Lancashire that we support." The plan also includes proposals to transform how our front-line staff work, so that they can spend more time with the people they are supporting rather than on administration.

Embedded in the updated approach is the council's commitment to being flexible, and listening to the views of people.
